This solenoid module controls the forward and reverse activation of your tarp motor. A solenoid relay is an electromagnetic switch designed to control a high-current circuit with a low-current signal. The "solenoid" is a tightly coiled wire inside of the relay that becomes magnetized when electrically charged. The magnetized coil pulls a plunger, or armature, altering the position of contact points within the relay in order to make, break, or interrupt a circuit.

This weatherproof solenoid module features two relay blocks, sealed and mounted on a circuitry deck with six posts for connecting wires to the external switch, battery, and tarp motor. When the control switch activates the first solenoid relay, it connects the motor in one configuration, allowing current to flow in one direction through the motor, causing it to rotate in the direction that unrolls the tarp. When the control switch activates the second solenoid relay, it changes the circuit configuration to reverse the current flow through the motor. This reversal of current changes the motor’s rotation direction, causing it to roll the tarp back onto the spool.

A solenoid configuration differs from a Rotary Switch in that a rotary switch is manually twisted in order to change the position of contact plates to complete circuits sending power to the motor, changing direction by changing which contact plates are being engaged. A solenoid is controlled by an external switch, but the contact point adjustments are done automatically within the relay module. Solenoid relays are easier to install and last longer than rotary switches.

This handy device allows you to open and close your tarp system with a simple flick of switch

Suitable for intermittent or continuous use at 12V DC. Perfect for tarp systems, but can also be used to control lifting equipment, hatches, winches, intake/exhaust fans, and other direction-reversing applications.
